Majrooh Sultanpuri was a famous Urdu poet and film lyricist. He occupies a prominent position among the progressive poets. His poetry is not much, yet he was not completely rejected but emerged as the guardian of some traditions of Urdu ghazal poetry. Even so, in view of the demands of progressivism, there is some thunder in his speech, but it is very less. Majrooh spent a major part of his life in the film world. Thus all his creative energy was spent there. Since Majroh did not want to deviate from his distinctions in ghazal poetry, he restricted himself from being just a productive poet. His creative force took another direction and that direction was to give credibility to film songs. He was also very successful in this.
